Sauntering from the Fortress had been a good idea, it seemed. Every now and then, the female found herself occasionally wanting to feel the coldness of nighttime on her skin, the stench of frozen dirt beneath her paws. The lands she lived in and ruled over were hot, filled with constant fire and lightning of her people. Occasionally, they would receive a refreshing rain, but it only came to them sparingly, and when they did not need it the most. At least there was a nearby river that ran through her territory for the people of Caldo to cool down in during the day. However, the seasons were changing and the days were cooling. It was more pleasurable when it was like this, for their river would not freeze for it was so warm, though they were fully able to keep themselves warm if they needed for it to happen.
Alyssia bounded across the earth, hurling her massive wolf body through the dying grasses and changing leaves. Fall approached, meaning winter was not far behind. She would need to ready her people for a harsh winter this year, for she had a feeling it would come. In her ten years of ruling, she'd always had some sort of feeling for certain things, especially those that could harm the ones she loved. Her breath escaped her and the cold air filled her lungs, revealed to her as a cloud of mist that blew back in her face every time she exhaled. Her platinum blonde fur was flattened with her speed, burned appearing ears, tail, and paws going with it all. Her fiery orange eyes burned with a passion for her running, knowing she was keeping herself well and healthy for the sake of many things. Not just her people, but herself as well.
The Monarch came to the banks of the river soon enough and she found herself working harder to move through it, unable to gain a correct grip, kicking up large sprays of sand behind her. She discovered it would be too difficult to run through the sand, especially at night with the river right beside her. It was not that she could not swim, but there were dangerous boulders surrounding her that could kill her if she were to land on them incorrectly. The last thing she needed to do was abandon her people like that, leave them alone and completely without a leader. So, she changed her direction, speeding off towards the fields that were just ahead, darting past the occasional tree that was there. She came to a halt, allowing herself to recollect her breath and calm herself down. The run had been a nice way to vent her constant emotion.
Alyssia gave the nothingness a wolfy smile as she saw the fireflies flashing their behinds, communicating and dancing. It was their way of sounding their mating call, though most did not know of this. To them, it was just a beautiful serenade there for them to gaze at in awe and wonder, as well as enjoyment. Though the woman was fully aware of the bright lighting's purpose, she could not help but fall in love with the patterns and the lights in contrast to the darkness of the night that surrounded them. She sat herself down, coming to enjoy it. The stars only added to the effect and the gentle sound of the flowing river behind her made the calm scene nearly perfect. She could have fallen asleep right there if she wanted to. However, she knew she had to remain awake in order to return to the Fortress when she was good and ready to.
A screech sounded the arrival of her dear friend, whom most saw as a pet, Belenus. He was an old phoenix, with feathers that appeared like flames and the ability to use fire as well. When he was about to be killed, then he could incinerate his own body into a pile of ash. If times were desperate, then a silver egg could be found within the ash, but if there was just a short amount of ample time, a phoenix chick would come from the ashes. Not only that, but his tears had healing powers as well, something that came from all phoenixes. She gave him a gentle smile when he slowed his flight to a stop, resting comfortably upon her wolf shoulders, digging his claws into her thick skin lightly for support. "You should be at home sleeping right now, you know. The others will worry." His voice was not scalding nor demanding.
She chuckled lightly, "They can wait. I am...taking a momentary reprieve."

The wind was shifting, winter brought the winds from the west making for a nice hard flight for those who enjoy fighting against the colder air flow, such as Fableryb did. He hasn't visited the neutral area in awhile, being stuck up inside the library of Tygere almost every day now. He's lived here for just around 2 years now, but there wasn't a single day he thought about going back to the west, where the great owl kingdoms reign over the land.
He made up his mind though, he felt relaxed here something he was not able to do at home. Shaking his head and muttering to himself to stop thinking and just fly, he shut his eyes and let out a deep sigh as he felt the cold air pushing him against him yet it kept him moving at the same time, the feeling was euphoric to him. He's naturaly been a great flyer, leading him to study the science of it, leading him to pick up weather interpretation as well, he chuckled a bit at himself before opening his eyes and seeing a trace glow flying in the air.
"hmmm someone carrying a lamp? no flights' to smooth hmmm" He thought to himself moving out of the air stream down to normal flight altitude following the faint glow to the ground, following it he quietly moved down taking shape was a wolf and another bird of sorts. He put out a quick hoot to notify his arrival before landing on a nearby rock. Adjusting himself to standing and folding back his wings he realized whom he's standing before.
"hmmm? oh, queen Alyssia!" Bowing in front of her sweeping a wing to his back and one in front "apologizes didn't know it was you, would of made a bit more respectful landing for you" puffing up and folding his wings back to rest "What brings you out this cool fall evening in the neutral lands?"

The silence was kind to her most days, but the gentle hush of the water behind her allowed her muscles to just fall limp, even with Belenus's sharp ebony claws digging into her fur for balance. There was not much she could do about that, though it did not bother her in the slightest. He had done it often, for he did not feel the need to leave her side too much, except when she was running in her wolf form. She was very large and very fast. There would be no hope for him to keep holding onto his mistress when she was running. He preferred to fly above her at that point, because the last thing he wanted to do was fall off into a river or a pit or even get hit with branches as she rushed through them. He had to admit his friend was a little...strange. She loved doing things that most others would not, but he could not change her.
Alyssia's ears twitched when she heard the hoot of arrival and her head turned in time to see a snowy owl sort of bow to her. She narrowed her fiery orange eyes for a moment, trying to come to a conclusion on who the owl was, when it suddenly came to her. She gave a wide wolfish grin and barked, "Greetings, Fable! It's of no trouble, really. There's no need for...such formal appearances." She did not mind the old owl's presence. In fact, he was a rather pleasurable thing for company. It was nice to see the kingdoms alive with such kind people. She was the one to start fights usually, but in actuality...she did not want to fight with anyone. It was just in her nature to become angered so quickly, granted her fuse was longer than everyone else's in Caldo, and she often could not avoid them. Not to mention she was confident in her Kingdom's ability to fight.
The massive phoenix upon her back eyed the stranger warily, not really liking another bird being around. He was rather possessive of his friend, just as a precautionary hazard. Between the two of them, he was the one to keep them out of trouble. Alyssia was aware of who Fable was and knew that he was of no harm, but Belenus did not see it this way. He was rather wary of anyone from another kingdom, just for that facts that he was not too trusting of a bird. He only trusted those within his circle (i.e. the Caldoians) and strangers were something he was not kind to. However, on the behalf of his dear friend, he nodded slightly to Fable, "Greetings." He managed to get that out, though his beak was tightened to a near close, showing his clear dislike of those whom were not a part of Caldo.
Alyssia shook her head. "Still uptight as always, Belenus. Relax, Fable is a friend." Belenus gave her a light glare and remained silent, knowing that she was right but was not willing to admit it. The Monarch chuckled a little bit, turning her orange eyes back to the owl in front of them. "I just came out here for a bit of a reprieve, really. It's nice to get away every now and then, especially from the heat of the desert. I love heat, but the cold is rather interesting, if I do say so myself. It does not get cold in the Caldo Kingdom during winter, just a slight chill. Though, I must wonder what it is like to live where snow is falling most of the year, such as the Aver Kingdom." She honestly did wonder such things. Caldo did not really ever receive snow, for it was just a massive desert, but the white frozen water particles intrigued her.

Returning to his normal stance he nodded in respect for the phoenix. There are no more of them left where he came from, either all left, died, or was stories from places like this, since all the knowledge of them was ancient legends. He is one of the greatest wonders Fable has seen. Giving the monarch a smile and a small chuckle himself he nodded in agreement with her. "Yes, I must agree getting out of Tyreger has given me some time to think." Letting out a soft sigh "Aver's snow is great, it reminds me of the mountains and winter where I came from."
Digging into his old thoughts he remembered the winters of the past before starting again "Brutal they where however, even one that caused the utter destruction of one of the larger kingdoms. As well as bringing the start to many wars as well since flying was difficult to non-winter species. Ironically that is what I love most about winter, the flight challenges, the gales, late season hurricanes, and blizzards I've flown thew so many I can't remember them all." He let out a small sigh under his beak, so many stories he still has yet written for these people.
Scratching the rock with his talon a bit "so what news from Caldo?" He hasn't been down the desert island in over a year, he's been busy writing, and studying that he lost track of time. News from Aver comes almost weekly, boarder towns share news from their kingdoms, where some of his 'students' bring news back with them, and being close to the monarch keeps the northern areas up to date with each other, Caldo however, only get news every month or so.
No news came out of Ombra hardly, once in a while a scout reported some news from his contacts, but other than that the separate isle keep most of it's news in it's own boarders which worried him. The same happened before Rorhin brought his entire home land in flames.

Alyssia smiled at the old bird, content with his presence. She had not really kept in contact with the other countries too much, having been oh so occupied with rebuilding her army and making her lands strong once more. She loved her people and though their buildings were impenetrable, someday she was sure they would need to fight someone again. She knew that their lands would need to be defended greatly at some point in time. She could feel it in her fur, in her very bones, and was able to smell this danger on the wind. It was looming over the great islands, like a dark billowing cloud that was ready to burst with rain at any moment in time. It made her skin crawl, knowing that there was something out there so dangerous that she did not know when it would come. She would not bother to mention it to anyone else, though, knowing they probably wouldn't believe her.
She closed her eyes for a moment and tried to picture what winter was, the cold snow surrounding her, laying on the ground like a gentle white blanket. It made her shiver with delight, just thinking of such things. She wanted it so desperately to snow in the lands of Caldo, but it just wouldn't. Not only was it location, but there was also something along the lines of the fact that it was a desert place and that no ice would ever survive there, at least for very long. She then imagined a blizzard, how hard those winds and freezing temperatures could be upon people. She opened her eyes, knowing how easily the cold could kill someone. She sighed, feeling her heart go out to those of Aver, wanting to somehow shelter them, take them under her wing and hug them until they were nice and warm. She was a caring girl like that, but her fuse could be burned easily.
"There isn't much news at all, I'm afraid. Nothing too interesting has happened lately. One of my followers has had a child recently, which we held a massive celebration for! Oh, what fun it was!" She grinned, wiggling her body slightly just at the thought of that day. She remembered how happy everyone had been, how well that they had all gotten along. She loved that night, having been able to get around and greet everyone with a smile, get to know them a little more each moment that passed. She realized how much closer it had brought them all together and she realized how she would need to do it more often. "I must do those more often. Everyone enjoys them so much." She ended her sentence there and fell silent, praying he would not ask about her building her army. It was a rumor now, and she sort of wanted to keep it that way.

Smiling and puffing up a bit, he knew the joys and celebrations a new life can bring. It made him chuckle remembering the celebrations families had in his home land, rather it was an owl, feline, no matter it was always good to hear someone having a new born. "No matter whom or where from, thats always a reason to celibrate" He said in reply with a soft hoot. "I should come down sometime in winter, I've been wanting to see more of Caldo, I've never really seen your fortress flew over it yes, but I hardly landed in Caldo, it's the one place I havn't been yet to fully" tilting his head a bit and let out soft hoole "I take that back, I haven't seen a bit of Ombra apart from the shore line" His mind wondered the the place again before he shook his head and looked back up to the fine wolf.
"hmmm, and rumor has it your trying to get a defense army trained, good....I really wish Tygere would, Aver apparently has a fine military head working to improve things over there" He stopped and thought about what he said and puffed up again "I...I, oh mind me it sounded like I wanted a war" He rubbed his head with a talon in a bit of embarrassment. "I think I need to lay off writing old stories for a time" It was part of the reason he went on this little trip, but what he really needed was a student or something to teach.
Laughing a bit "Sorry, this old owl still has his glory moments" taking a short sigh and relaxing a bit "Which reminds me I need to bring one of my books down here for your library" He spoke as a cloud washed over them blocking the sun for a few moments "From azure skies to the far gold plains~" he stopped mid sentence that was barely more than a whisper and chuckled to himself turning himself back to Alyssia and the Phoenix

Alyssia listened as he stated he wished to come to her lands during the winter season, which she certainly had no problem with. He was no spy nor was he a thread, he was just an old storyteller. She felt he could do no harm by being in her lands just for a visit and began thinking how some of the children would even like to see that he was an owl. Certain things fascinated children and she couldn't quite understand why, but she had been there once just as they had, so she had no room to judge. Though, she loved children. They were the epitome of innocence, the truest thing one could ever find. There wasn't one thing in this world that she would allow to harm a child, and she would stand defiantly in its way if it even bothered trying to harm a child. She was just defensive over them, much like a mother. "Well, my friend, you are welcome of visit anytime. Just send us a warning so I may tell my people. That way they don't yell 'spy' upon seeing you."
She smiled at him, "It's no problem at all, really. Though, I will say you are correct in the rumors of me rebuilding my army. During that war between the elements, we suffered many losses and I'm afraid a lot of people's pride was damaged. Besides, Ombra does not leave a good feeling within my stomach, and I fear that they might pose a problem sooner or later. I'm rebuilding my army because I want to protect my people. Rumors say I want to start a war with everyone, but I do not. I only want to protect Caldo and the only way I know how is through politics. But with a strong army as back up in case anything goes wrong...that's never a bad idea either." She had gone off into her own little world once more, growing serious for several minutes as she explained to the male what it was that she was intending on doing.
Books? She wasn't a big reader, only because she didn't have much time to do so, but she had managed to have done so to a few books, and found them rather enticing. "That would be lovely. I'm sure everyone will want to read more books." In truth, she knew of several people who were massive readers, and they enjoyed nothing more than books. Well, other than fighting in her army. Everyone seemed to love that the most, perhaps it was a pride thing.

Nodding in reply to her answer to the rumors before thought cross his mind "Have you ever considered giving a gesture of friendship, or even making an defensive pact?" It was not in his nature to get muddled in politics, but he did have strong ideas for protecting land with help from others. It's what his homeland relied on for the most part, since it was a smaller kingdom. "Just to show Caldo is not as wild and spontaneous as the fire it's so famed for. The world isn't built on the backs of one nation"
He scratched his mark in the soil with a talon, "Not trying to muddle in politics, but I've known war for a long time." Letting out a sigh and looking down at the ground "there's blood on my talons, more than most" He's never really admitted any of this before, it sent some chills though his gizzard. Although it was obvious by his scars he's been in fights, but not full battles.
(sorry for the short post D=)
