Golden feathers glistened blithely in the dawn, soaked in a mix of cloud water and the condensed chill of dawn air. Nalith coasted just beneath the opalescent underbellies of the clouds, the rosy glow of the sun just barely breaking through the overcast skies, her occasional moment in a ray of light casting her in an momentary heavenly glow. The eagle had coasted in this manner for hours, over six feet of her golden plumage an ample canopy to catch the warm winds that rose beneath her.
Behind her, clutched tightly in her talons was a dark blue satchel that bobbed rhythmically with her movements, easily identified as a medicine bag by the sprigs of greenery that burst from its clasp. There was would always be a need for more though, and it was for this reason that she was out at such early hours. Her gaze swept over the land below, to the raptors eyes each hole and bush as clear as though only feet away. The earth seemed to be enshrouded by a misty haze, a faint and ethereal blue that settled heavily into the folds and valleys, painting the world in beautiful, dusky shadows. The cool grey gaze continued it's sweep, narrowed with dissatisfaction and disappointment by the lack of options, that is, till seeing the haze of the glistening blue lake. It should've been a medical trip - she really should have been out collecting herbs not found within her kingdom. But....
The temptation of a day spent relaxing at the lake was simply too strong. She abandoned the warm thermal cushion, the raptor altering her course with a single, lazy stoke, now wheeling slowly downwards and towards the dark glimmer of the lake. Her descent brought her to the lakes edge, ending high in the boughs of one of the surrounding pines. Lengthy talons wrapped around the branch, drilling into the tender bark like ebony blades. It was a tall tree, several meters height, slender and fragile at its pointed top but providing a prime view of the lake. The thin branch she had landed on was already bowing under her weight, but the view was well worth the risk. While folding in her wings, she shifted slowly from foot to foot, encouraging the branch more flexible and familiar with her weight.
Once her perches groans of protest had finally ceased, her beak parted to utter a simple cry, much like a human sigh of relaxation. She was easy to please; given some time to herself, she knew full well how to make good use of it. Feeling settled, the eagle puffed her feathers to the fullest extent, encased in a misty halo as thousands of tiny droplets exploded into the air around her. Several of the shaggy feathers of her crest remained wildly askew, left to wave almost comically in the breeze, teased by the gentle exhalations of air that the lake would occasionally sigh. Her overly self conscious nature could not abide such an appearance, even if there seemed to be nobody there to see it, which, if the total silence on the crisp air were a hint, complete solitude was certainly the case. Nevertheless she began swiftly running her beak through her feathers, letting the relaxing rhythmic of preening take control. Soon she had entered a complete lull, oblivious to everything around her, overcome by a sense of peace and contentment.
